Heavy Equipment Technician   

$80,000/ per year

 Thompson Pipe Group is looking for a Heavy Equipment Technician to install, troubleshoot, clean, inspect, and maintain mechanical equipment throughout the facility in a safe and productive manner. Part of this includes doing preventive maintenance on equipment, changing outwear parts, and recording of damage or miss-use of equipment. 

 

Essential duties and responsibilities: 

  • Work to repair and maintain trucks, forklifts, and pallet jacks. Assists with installation of new equipment. 
  • Maintain all job site equipment in a good, clean, orderly condition and reports all deficiencies to supervisor 
  • Maintains, lubricates, and cleans equipment, performs required inspections, completes paperwork, and assumes accountability 
  • Dismantle equipment to gain access to and remove defective parts using hoists, 
  • Follow OSHA and HAZMAT rules and regulations 
  • Takes proactive steps to make improvements to plant equipment and processes. 
  • Follows standard safety procedures, correct safety, and environmental hazards, and report them to supervision, as necessary. 
  • Recommends improvements in maintenance methods, working to reduce cost of replacement/repair whenever possible 
  • Test and troubleshoot malfunctioning mobile equipment, determine repairs, and discuss with Head Mechanic for approval and repair as needed 
  • Ability to operate welder, cutting torch, electrical/power and manual hand tools for repairs. 
  • Be able to troubleshoot & repair electrical problems 
  • Reads, understands, and applies information such as lockout/tagout procedures, safety rules, job hazard analyses, pre-job briefings, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures manuals. 
  • Participate in safety programs 

 
Qualifications: 

  • Understand basic electrical and hydraulic schematics 
  • Safely use tools like electrical meters, hydraulic gauges, and lifting equipment 
  • Welding/fabrication experience (preferred but not required) 
  • Must know how to safely work around and with heavy equipment/object 
  • Able to measure accurately with calipers, feeler gauges, and tape measures 
  • Be able to work 40+hours per week 

 
Experience: 

  • 3-5 year (Preferred) 
  • Manufacturing environment: 3 years (Preferred) 
  • Forklift Driving: 3 years (Preferred) 
  • Repairing Forklifts weighing 5,000lbs- 80,000lbs  
  • Repaired Heavy Equipment: Cranes 
  • Welding: 3 years (Preferred) 
  • Ability to arc welding and cutting torch experience 
  • Service Tech: 3 years (Preferred) 
  • Ability to read simple electrical / mechanical drawings 
  • Communicates effectively 

 
Physical requirements and working conditions: 

  • Must be able to work in extreme temperatures and will be exposed to heat, cold, wind, rain, dust, confined spaces, elevated areas, dirt 
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 35 lbs. and up to 100 lbs. occasionally* 
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods 
  • Must be able to work on feet for extended periods* 
  • Must be capable of using protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses/goggles, safety shoes, hearing protection, air masks, respirators, etc. in the performance of job duties* * 
     

Must pass Pre-employment physical and drug test.
