Job overview: Scrap Buyer Manager is responsible for the management, training, development, performance, retention, and engagement of employees. Leading the department in the achievement of operational objectives pertaining to sales, performance, production efficiency, cost, customer service, and workplace safety. Essential Duties: • Responsible for purchases of scrap metal from industrial accounts. • Investigates new potential sources of consumers of scrap metal. Buys from retail, dealer, light industrial customers, repair shops, demolition projects, clean-ups, etc. • Develops the growth of business activities and profit with assigned accounts. • Maximizes all opportunities in the process of closing a deal, resulting in the taking of market share from competitors. • Directs and coordinates all sales activities locally and regionally. • Track and analyze sales statistics based on key quantitative metrics. • Oversees and manages the activities and performance of the commercial buyer’s team. • Develops and implements strategies and actions to prevent account loss. • Processes requests for price quotations, purchase orders, order changes, adjustments, and cancellations directly with vendors and manufacturers. • Maintains frequent communications with suppliers for updated lead-time and inventory info for proper planning. Negotiates with suppliers on price, payment and shipment terms and contracts to optimize cost effectiveness. Education/Experience: 5 years of experience in sales / scrap ferrous /purchasing sales recycling and metal industry preferred. 5 years of negotiation skills College degree in related field (Finance / Economics / Business/ Sales) a plus. Mathematical Skills: Strong math and analytical skills required. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software. • Willing to work different shifts and travel up to 50% of the time. • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
